Brodmann areas (medial view) (Latin)
Brodmann areas (medial view) (Latin)
Brodmann areas seen on the medial surface of the lobus frontalis are mostly continuations of those seen on the lateral surface (areas 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11). In addition, there are two areas seen only on the medial view (areas 24 and 32) that correspond to the cortex cingularis (i.e. cortex limbicus). The medial view of the lobus parietalis shows Brodmann area 5 (cortex somatosensorius associativus) involved in the perception of space. Areas 23 and 31 are continuous with areas 24 and 32 of the lobus frontalis, and also correspond to the cortex cingularis. The lobus occipitalis contains three important areas which are areas 17, 18 and 19, all involved in visual stimuli processing (cortex visualis primarius, secundius, et associativus). Areas on the medial surface of the lobus temporalis are area 27 (located in the cortex piriformis) involved in the perception of smell, areas 35 and 36 (cortex perirhinalis) involved in memory processing.
